Update for a Cinderella
Claremont

In the early and mid-1950’s tracks of what were marketed as Cinderella homes were being built in Southern California, with the first ones in Anaheim two years before Disneyland opened. These tract homes came to Claremont in the late fifties creating a unique neighborhood with a character all its own. But after almost 70 years, the needs of a family with growing kids has changed, ‘Leave it to Beaver’ has given way to ‘Modern Family’.

The removal of the wall separating the kitchen from the living/dining room opened the space for bar seating and direct passage between the spaces. Working with the homeowners, we also reated a new set of steps leading to the family room, closing off the previous passage that went through the kitchen. This new opening allowed the removal of one of the fireplaces, creating an opportunity to add a window and much-needed light into the living/dining room. A cozy reading nook was carved out of the space with new built-in bookshelves and an appropriately positioned loveseat.

The full remodel of the kitchen included new windows, lighting, countertops, flooring and all new cabinets. We updated the cabinetry and added more drawers to make finding pots and pans much easier. The stainless-steel backsplash behind the range is easy to clean, and the range area now has a drawer and pull-out spice and oil cabinets on each side creating the perfect cooking area.
