Quiet Retreat
Claremont

The homeowners’ requests were for a low-maintenance shelter to shade the large kitchen window, a dining area, and a space to sit and read. To tackle the low-maintenance requirement, we worked with the owners on selecting an aluminum trellis solution. The client decided upon a higher-end, smooth-finished aluminum that has a thicker support structure.

The fire table and chairs in the corner provide a quiet place for the owners to have a cup of tea or coffee while reading or chatting. Often on beautiful Claremont evenings, the couple enjoys dinner at the table and will retreat to the fire table and chairs to relax and enjoy the evening sounds.

The trellis sits above the eaves to allow an increase in height above the dining area while still providing morning shading on the sliding glass door. By attaching the trellis to the roof, we were able to provide an unobstructed view of the area. The stretched sunshade over the eaves provides extra height and prevents the light gap along two sides from hitting the windows.

A new wood slat gate replaced the worn one, with a metal frame to ensure longevity and beauty. The Kayu Batu wood was oiled to bring out its natural beauty and rich red / brown color. The easy-to-open and easy-to-lock gate coupled with self-closing hinges is the ideal passage from the car to the house with groceries or packages in hand.
